Blobbed Away

Blobbed Away is a modern arcade game inspired by the classic QIX, where quick thinking and sharp reflexes are your best allies. Take control of a brave blob — a nod to the iconic monster from the 1950s horror film "The Blob" — and carve your way through mysterious, ever-shifting arenas. But beware! Mischievous Soots, inspired by the beloved dust sprites from Studio Ghibli’s "Spirited Away," roam the darkness, ready to thwart  your every move. Outsmart them, claim territory, and survive as long as you can. With captivating music, charming pixel art, and a nostalgic yet fresh gameplay loop, Blobbed Away offers a unique blend of challenge and atmosphere. Whether you’re chasing highscores, racing against the clock, or hunting every last soot, you’ll find yourself drawn into a world that’s as stylish as it is addictive.

General Rules

• Move the blob using arrow keys.

• Draw a green line

• When the blob successfully draws a line, that area is flood-filled in black (claimed).

• The blob always claims a smaller portion of the game area.

• Avoid black soots – touching them costs a life!

• Crossing your own green line or moving backwards along it 

  will cause the blob to die

• You are safe as long as you stay on black (claimed) areas.

• While playing the game press ESC to pause.

• In the main menu, press CTRL+R to reset all highscores.

Arcade Mode – Rules

• Close off (claim) areas to earn points.

• Catch soots inside closed areas for bonus points!

• Fill the required area to complete the level.

• You have 3 lives – losing all ends the game.

• Each level adds more Soots and raises the area threshold.

Soot Hunt – Rules

• Your goal is to catch all soots by closing them inside filled areas.

• Each level has more soots to catch.

• You have 3 lives – losing all ends the game.

• The timer counts up – finish as fast as you can!

• Your best time for each level is saved as a highscore.

Time Challenge – Rules

• Close off areas to increase your claimed percentage - the more the better!

• You have only one life – be careful!

• You have 60 seconds to claim as much area as possible.

• The game ends when time runs out or you lose your life.

• Try to beat your best claimed percentage!

Technical Requirements

Operating system: Windows 10 or newer (other platforms may work, but are not officially supported), screen resolution: minimum 1024x768 pixels, a working sound card and speakers/headphones are recommended for the best experience, at least 80 MB of free disk space, 4 GB RAM, input: keyboard

Known issues 

-------------------------------------------------

In extremely rare cases, a race condition can occur. instead of a green line, the Blob draws a black line. This line still cuts off an area, but the area is not filled in black. However, Soots will still bounce off this region as if it were filled.
